Malaysia: MOU signing between Department of Statistics Malaysia and HDC

KUALA LUMPUR, MARCH 17, 2021 – Malaysia as the world’s driving halal center, is resolved to reinforce the plan of Malaysia’s extensive halal industry information base. Consequently, the Department of Statistic Malaysia (DOSM) and Halal Development Corporation Berhad (HDC) today marked the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on co-activity in enabling exploration and information examination on halal industry.

DOSM was addressed by Chief Statistician, YBhg. Dato’ Sri Dr. Mohd Uzir Mahidin and HDC was addressed by Mr. Hairol Ariffein Sahari, Chief Executive Officer.

This is a part of continuous effort in cultivating evidence based decision making for the benefit of the industry”.

Dato’ Sri Dr. Mohd Uzir Mahidin also stated, “DOSM had published extensive information on Halal Statistics in Malaysia such as sales, values added and employment. DOSM also publishes statistics on exports of halal products on a monthly basis’.

“I am proud to share a very significant milestone in the Malaysia halal industry where HDC in collaboration with DOSM will be working towards the production of Malaysia’s Halal Industry Statistical Data Analysis, the first in the world verified of halal big data backed by the Government to pave the way for more precise economic indicators on halal industry”, said Hairol Ariffein.

The MoU signing ceremony was held in conjunction of HDC’s webinar entitled, Halal Sectoral Roadmap Implementation 2021. “Halal Sectoral Roadmap is introduced by HDC to strengthen the halal national blueprint based on current global economic scenario. Two sectors have been chosen, namely, Pharmaceuticals and Food Services sector with the objective to achieve RM40 billion revenue generated by Halal Food Services and RM1.6 billion revenue generated by Halal Pharmaceuticals sector by 2025”, explained Hairol Ariffein further.
